Students who have graduated B.Tech degree or B.Tech-M.Tech dual degree programme at NIT Agartala (National Institute of Technology) can now get admission in Ph.D. fellow programme IIT Delhi. NIT Agartala and IIT Delhi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration in academic activities, and admission offer in the Ph.D. fellow programme is one such initiative. One of the important aspects of this MoU is that NIT Agartala graduates can get direct admission in IIT Delhi without GATE score. Apart from admission, NIT Agartala students can take up a semester-long project or internship at IIT Delhi. IIT Delhi also facilitates student exchange programme where NIT Agartala graduates ca pursue B.Tech up to the sixth semester at the institute, and then pursue the remaining two semesters at IIT Delhi. In all, NIT Agartala students can complete their part of the programme from IIT Delhi. However, NIT Agartala will award the B.Tech degree. In the case of B.Tech-M.Tech dual degree programme, students can pursue up to 8th semester and then pursue the rest of the semesters at IIT Delhi. In this case, too, NIT Agartala will only award he degrees. IIT Delhi Director, Professor V Ramgopal Rao revealed that the MoU would enable the meritorious students of NIT Agartala to do a part of their study, project/ internship at the premier institutes. This will also help the NIT students to take early admission in Ph.D. programmes of IIT Delhi. The premier institute is focusing on enhancing research, and such MoUs are a part of such initiatives, he added. Students who are selected to pursue a part of their programme at IIT Delhi will be offered provisional admission in the Ph.D. programme. However, the final selection will be made only after evaluating the performance of candidates based on their course work or research work. The selected candidates may also get PMRF scholarship.
