Overview

CLAT 2025 application forms are in progress and, candidates can fill and submit the application form before April 25 as per the new announcement of CLAT Consortium.

CLAT 2025 Registration has been started from 15th July 2024. Exam will be conducted on 1st December 2024. CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a National Level entrance exam conducted by Consortium of National Law Universities.

What is CLAT?

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national level entrance exam for admissions to candidates in undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law courses offered at 22 NLUs and other colleges/ universities accepting exam scores.

Till 2018, the exam was conducted by NLUs on a rotational basis. However, from 2023 onwards it is being conducted by a permanent body formed by the universities, i.e. The Consortium of NLUs. The consortium has its headquarter at NLSIU Bangalore and comprises:

  • An Executive Committee

  • The CLAT Convenor of the current year (DNLU Jabalpur for CLAT 2025)

  • The CLAT Convenor of the following year 

  • Two co-opted Vice-Chancellors of NLU

CLAT Eligibility Criteria 2025

To appear for CLAT exam, candidates need to fulfil the eligibility criteria as under:

CLAT Eligibility for five-year Integrated courses:

  • Candidates who have completed 10+2 or equivalent examination for national or state board of education.
  • They should have obtained minimum 45% marks if belonging to General/ Other Backward Class (OBC) / Specially-abled categories and 40% marks if belonging to Scheduled Class (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories. 
  • There is no age limit to apply CLAT 2025 as the Bar Council of India (BCI) as removed the upper or lower age limit criteria for admissions to law courses.

CLAT Process 

Candidates seeking admissions to NLUs or law schools accepting CLAT scores have to follow the process as under: 

Step 1: Online application - The CLAT consortium opens the application window in online mode on the official website. Candidates seeking admissions through CLAT exam have to apply before the last date of application after completing each step including, registration, filling up the form, uploading documents and fee payment. Also ReadSteps to fill CLAT 2025 application form

Step 2: Issuing of admit card - The candidates who have successfully filled and submitted the application form of CLAT will be issued admit card to appear for the examination. The admit card of CLAT 2025 will mention details about the test-taking candidate, exam centre name and location, and test schedule.

Step 3: Appearing for the exam - Candidates have to appear for the entrance exam at the allotted test centres of CLAT 2025. The test timings for CLAT 2025 are 3 pm to 5 pm, however, candidates should report to their test centre by 2 pm. They should their admit card and a valid photo ID proof with them.

Step 4: Declaration of results - The consortium will announce results of CLAT 2025 on the official website along with a provisional merit list for each NLU. 

Step 5: Admission process - The counselling process of CLAT 2025 will begin in online mode with provisional seat allotment on the basis of the first merit list. The candidates have to confirm their seat after document verification and payment of counselling-cum-admission fee.

The National Law Universities (NLUs) in India (except for the NLU Delhi) and other top law colleges offer admissions to five-year integrated LLB courses, as well as LLM courses on the basis of CLAT scores. The courses offered are:

Registration Eligibilty

● Nationality: Applying candidates must be  Indian Nationals/ NRI/ NRI Sponsored.

● Age Limit: There will be no upper age limit to apply for both UG & PG courses.

Course Eligibility Criteria
For UG Programme
  • Qualifying Exam: To be eligible for UG courses, candidates must pass class 12th level from a recognized board/ university.

  • Marks: In the qualifying exam, candidates must secure at least 45% aggregate and 40% marks in case of SC/ ST category.

  • Appearing: Those appearing candidates in class 12th level will also be eligible to apply for the exam.

For PG Programme
  • Qualifying Exam: Applying candidates for PG courses must have passed LLB or 5-year integrated or its equivalent from a recognized institute/ university.

  • Marks: To be eligible, candidates must score 50% marks and 45% marks in case of reserved category (SC/ST) in the qualifying exam.

  • Appearing: Candidates appearing in the final year of their qualifying exam in April/ May 2025 will also be eligible to apply.

Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Mode of Exam: Through offline (Pen-paper based) mode, the exam will be conducted.

Types of Question:

Section: Total 5 section will be there in the question paper of UG courses.

Duration: Candidates will be given 2 hoursto solve the paper.

Medium: Exam will be held only in English language.

Number of Questions: Total 120 Questions willbe asked for both UG & PG exam.

Marking Scheme: For every correct answere, 1 mark will be given.

Negative Marking: 0.25 mrak will be deducted for each incorrect response.

For UG Course

Syllabus

The authority release the CLAT 2025 syllabus through online mode on the website. There is various sections in CLAT syllabus in UG courses such as English, General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Mathematics, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning. It will be necessary to go through the complete syllabus before appearing in the examination.

How To Preparation

Admit Card

CLAT admit card 2025 will be released in the third week of November 2024. Consortium of NLUs will publish the admit card through online mode only, no other offline method will be provided. Login credentials such as Registration number/application number and date of birth will be required to access the admit card.

Candidates are suggested to keep the hardcopy of it save for the day of examination. It will be mandatory for all applying candidates to carry the original admit card along with the ID proof to the exam center.

It will consist with details such as candidate’s name, date of birth, parent’s name, date, time, venue, address, signature, photograph, etc. After downloading admit card, candidates must go through the details carefully. In case of any discrepancy in it contact the authority immediately for the rectification.
